Things To Take With You When Camping For A Long Period

Camping is always fun and is one of the cheaper ways of taking a break without breaking your wallet. For most part, if you are prepared enough then you ‘should’ be comfortable with camping for a week or longer as well. However, one of the things to keep in mind is that in the wild, there are no rules. So do not be surprised when things that usually happened in a pattern just goes haywire in one day.

Camping is a great way to let loose and get away from your daily stresses and issues and will give you a chance to bond with your family over a fire. But one main thing to keep in mind no matter what is to carry your medical supplies. Here are some of tips you would need to check before going on a relatively long camping trip.

Beware the raccoon

Raccoons are considered pests no matter where they are. But in the wild when there are no walls and doors to bar them from entering your premises and taking off with something that catches their fancy, you will need extra measures. You don’t want to lose your precious throatscope to a raccoon. Shiny things are in the must-take lists of a raccoon, and if they want something inside a container they will literally chew through it to get to the item. The only proven way to keep your things safe from raccoons is to wrap it up tightly so that no smells go out, dig deep into the ground, place the item and then put a heavy rock on top to seal it off.

When putting on clothes and shoes again

Most insects and animals dubbed as ‘creepy crawlies’ generally like dark and cool places. So if you place your clothes and shoes somewhere (even inside the camp), make sure to shake them well before wearing them again. If not then you should be prepared to have a mini heart attack when you feel something that was not inside the jacket or the shoe when you took it off (and potentially get attacked).

Do not camp near still waters

Apart from the general creepiness of staying near a large body of water that does not move at all. More so than the ghosts and other paranormal beings that are featured in movies and TV shows that emerge from still waters, mosquitoes are a far bigger thread. Mosquito breeding grounds are clear and unmoving waters and if you end up somewhere close by you are pretty much declaring yourselves as fresh blood feasts.

Always take care to take your things back with you. Camping is fun but do not destroy the nature around you to make yourself comfortable or to have fun. Keep in mind that in the wild, the animals can and will attack you if you make them angry.
